Ph.D. Student Wants to Fill the Need for Feed Research

Andrea Rubio has no plans to trade in her dusty T-shirts, pants and boots for more professional attire now that she’s earned her Ph.D. from NC State. The Prestage Department of Poultry Science alumna and inaugural recipient of the John Thomas Brake Memorial Poultry Science Graduate Endowment Award enjoys working with animals too much.

For over five years, Sheronda Witter served as the director of the North Carolina Center for Afterschool Programs. Now, as the STEM Next Opportunity Fund’s Out-of-School Time Partnerships Fellow in the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education, she is working to ensure access to high-quality afterschool and summer learning programs for students across the nation.

After losing her mother to cancer three days into her freshman year at NC State, Alyssa Bowker found herself thrust into a challenging emotional and financial situation. To honor her mother, and seeded by gifts from their wedding guests, she and her husband created an endowment that they continue to grow to support students facing similar difficulties.
