The role of the Alumni Association Board of Directors is to support and advance the mission of the NC State Alumni Association and NC State University. Their responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborate with the AEAG team by actively supporting, promoting and advocating for achieving their fiscal year goals and strategic priorities. This involves setting board goals, participating on board committees and work groups, advising on alumni-related matters and strengthening partnerships between the university and alumni.
  2. Financial Oversight: Board members are responsible for the stewardship and oversight of the fiduciary activities of the Alumni Association, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations and effective and ethical management.
  3. Engagement and Outreach: Board members are ambassadors who are involved in efforts to connect alumni, encourage involvement and build a sense of community.
  4. Philanthropy: The board actively participates in all aspects of the donor cycle, including identification/discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of current and future donors. Board members demonstrate philanthropy through their financial contributions, investment of time and service, and sharing their expertise and network. Each board member advances the achievement of AEAG’s annual fundraising goals.
  5. Advocate for the alumni community. Board members represent alumni interests and concerns to the university leadership and other stakeholders.

2025-2026 Annual Letter of Commitment

As a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, I am fully committed to the Alumni Association’s mission to “engage alumni and friends through programs and services that foster pride and enhance lifelong connections to NC State” and have pledged to help carry it out. I understand that my duties include the following:

Serve as an Ambassador

  1. I will act in accordance with the Association’s bylaws and understand that I am responsible, as a member of the board, for the health and well-being of the organization. I will avoid any demonstration or behavior representing a conflict of interest between my position as a board member and my personal and/or professional life.
  2. In consultation with the AEAG team, support our college/department connections across campus by meeting with at least one campus representative, faculty, dean or other NC State-affiliated board member during each fiscal year.
  3. I will connect with my preferred college/unit advancement team and find ways that the Alumni Association can partner, collaborate or amplify their priorities and activities.
  4. Actively promote and represent NC State University by staying current and knowledgeable of the news, achievements, accomplishments, events and activities taking place at NC State University.

Support NC State University

  1. Demonstrate leadership by prioritizing the university among one’s philanthropic causes and make a gift commensurate with my means each fiscal year, preferably by NC State Day of Giving, to contribute to 100% board participation.
  2. Steward donors and/or lifetime members of the NC State Alumni Association by calling, emailing and/or writing to at least fifteen donors/members to thank them for their contribution per fiscal year. Note: Stewardship opportunities and information will be available and provided during every Board of Directors meeting.
  3. Participating actively in AEAG’s philanthropic engagement efforts, including sharing philanthropic opportunities with my network, reviewing potential donor lists, hosting gatherings and making introductions.

Engage in Board Activities

  1. Actively participate on at least one board committee. Active participation includes meeting attendance, thoughtful consideration of related topics for discussion and providing meaningful feedback that supports the goals of the committee(s).
  2. Attend scheduled board meetings, prepare beforehand and engage thoughtfully.
  3. Represent the Alumni Association Board of Directors at all times, including at NC State University events.
  4. Actively promote the NC State Alumni Association and the Board of Directors by identifying and nominating future board members.

I accept these responsibilities for the Alumni Association and agree to these expectations as a member of the board for fiscal year 2025-2026. If, at any time during my term, I cannot meet all of my responsibilities as a board member, I will evaluate offering my resignation to the leadership of the Board of Directors and Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving.
