Lyndenise Berdecia Rivera serves on the NC State Alumni Board of Directors because the strength of the alumni community that stretches across the world with more than 310,000 proud alumni. It reminds her that alumni are part of something larger, lasting and deeply interconnected.

She says that each time she walks campus or meets a fellow alum, she feels the echo of a place that once opened its doors to her and continues to widen the path for others. Giving back is her way of honoring that legacy, of pouring gratitude forward so future students feel the same sense of possibility that once carried her.

She believes in the power of education to transform not only individual futures but entire families and communities, and she says that NC State has long been a catalyst for that kind of change. Berdecia Rivera says serving allows her to lift voices, expand access and nurture a belonging that outlives any single moment. It is both a privilege and a promise – one she holds with pride and one she hopes encourages others to find their place in the extraordinary Pack.
