Takeaways from the Webinar

  • NC State is proactively integrating AI across programs and disciplines
The university has launched initiatives such as the Data Science and AI Academy, a Business Analytics concentration, and a graduate certificate in Business AI. Programs like the Master of Science in Analytics are being updated to incorporate modern AI approaches, and industry practicums are expanding to ensure students gain real-world AI experience before graduation.
  • AI replaces tasks, not entire jobs, but it changes who succeeds at work
The biggest risk is not job loss to AI itself, but losing relevance to people who know how to use AI effectively. Productivity, judgment, and the ability to guide AI tools are becoming core professional skills.
  • The biggest workforce disruption is happening at the entry level
AI is reducing demand for some early-career roles while increasing demand for mid- and senior-level talent. This creates a broken career ladder, making experiential learning, internships, and practicums more important than ever.
  • Value comes from learning with AI, building with AI, and governing AI responsibly
Using AI as a thinking partner, creator, and system builder is more important than simply consuming outputs. Human oversight, validation, and ethical responsibility remain essential.
  • Human skills matter more as AI handles routine cognitive work
Critical thinking, leadership, emotional intelligence, and ethical judgment are becoming stronger differentiators, not weaker ones. AI increases the value of people who can ask good questions and make sound decisions.
